HTC, T-Mobile Join Hands to Debut Google Android Phone in New York

Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC and US telecom carrier T-Mobile have worked together to debut a Smartphone based on Google's open source Android platform in New York City, according to an AFP report. The new Android-powered Smartphone, dubbed the Dream, is slated for unveiling on September 23. On its website the Wall Street Journal estimated the price tag of the Dream at US$199. Nevertheless, both HTC and T-Mobile declined to comment on the pricing.

HTC's Dream Smartphone is projected to reach a shipment volume of 600,000 to 700,000 units by the end of 2008, according to the Wall Street Journal Asia. Both HTC and T-Mobile are the members of the Open Handset Alliance led by Google to pursue development of the Android platform. Other members include heavyweight players such as China Mobile, Intel, LG, Motorola, Qualcomm, and Telefonica.
